Tankless Water Heater Installation
A good tankless installation starts with your household, not a box on the wall. Leon Plumbing helps homeowners in Sunland, the Crescenta Valley, Glendale and Burbank choose a gas or electric system that fits their hot-water demand and the home’s available utilities. Family-owned since 1983 and licensed under CSLB C-36 #474827, we review the full installation before recommending equipment. The goal is reliable hot water without discovering an unexpected gas-line, venting or electrical problem after the old heater is removed.
Sizing for the way you use hot water
Tell us which fixtures run together: two showers, a kitchen faucet, laundry or a large soaking tub. Tankless capacity depends on both simultaneous flow and temperature rise—the difference between incoming cold water and your chosen hot-water temperature. A model’s advertised maximum flow is not its output at every temperature rise. We compare your demand with the manufacturer’s performance chart rather than sizing from bedroom count alone.
We also discuss minimum activation flow and long pipe runs. An oversized heater does not eliminate the wait for hot water to travel to a distant bathroom. A compatible recirculation design may help, but it requires planning around your plumbing layout and controls.
Gas and electric: check the utilities first
Gas tankless heaters need a gas supply sized for the appliance and the other equipment connected to the system. Existing piping that served a storage heater may not support a higher-input tankless model. We evaluate pipe material, route, length and available supply, and identify whether a gas-line upgrade or utility coordination is needed. Do not assume the existing connector is sufficient.
Electric tankless heaters avoid combustion venting but can place a substantial demand on electrical service. Whole-home models may require multiple dedicated circuits and a panel or service review by a qualified electrician. We discuss feasibility before you buy a unit; replacing a gas tank with electric tankless is not simply plugging in a different heater.
Permits, venting and a safe location
The permit and inspection process depends on the jurisdiction and the installation scope. Sunland and Tujunga, Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena do not all share the same permitting office. We identify the applicable requirements for the property and explain what is included in the proposal. Venting must follow the chosen model’s manual and local code, including approved materials, termination clearances and combustion-air requirements.
Indoor and outdoor models have different placement rules. Condensing gas models also need an appropriate condensate drain arrangement; treatment may be required by the installation instructions or local rules. We consider access for future service, protection from weather where applicable, shutoffs and service valves so annual maintenance is practical.
Rinnai dealer savings and your proposal
As an authorized Rinnai dealer, Leon Plumbing offers savings up to $2,200 on a new residential tankless installation. Ask us which equipment and project conditions qualify. This is a maximum advertised saving, not a guaranteed discount on every installation, a published installation price or a promise that separate incentives can be combined.
Your written proposal should identify the unit, utility upgrades, vent route, permit scope and any exclusions. After installation, commissioning includes checking operation and explaining the controls, shutoffs and maintenance needs. Keep the model number, warranty paperwork and service record. If you are converting an existing tank system, review our conversion page before your appointment.
Installation: common questions
Can you install both gas and electric tankless heaters?
Yes. We first review hot-water demand and utility capacity. Gas supply, venting and electrical requirements determine which system is practical for your home.
How do you choose the right size?
We compare simultaneous fixture demand and incoming-water temperature with the model’s performance chart. A maximum advertised flow rate alone is not enough.
Will I need a gas-line upgrade?
Possibly. Pipe sizing depends on total appliance demand, pipe length and other installation conditions. We check the existing supply before recommending a gas unit.
Are permits included?
We explain the required permit and inspection scope in your written proposal. Requirements vary by city and by the work involved.
Does every installation receive $2,200 in savings?
No. Savings are up to $2,200 on qualifying new residential tankless installations. Ask Leon Plumbing about eligibility and the actual offer for your project.
